MCCCI eyes trade, investments at fair

Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) says the upcoming Malawi International Trade Fair (Mitf) promises  to provide unparalleled opportunities for trade and investment.

Slated for May 22 to 29 at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre, the fair is expected to host at least 160 exhibitors, a rise from last year’s 137. It will be held under the theme ‘Promoting economic growth through private sector-led economic transformation’.

Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre yesterday, MCCCI director of membership development Wezi Mungoni said the theme was chosen in view of the private sector-led industrialisation.

“The fair will ensure that businesses take centre stage in shaping economic growth,” she said.

Speaking during the opening of the trade fair last year, President Lazarus Chakwera expressed dismay over the widening trade deficit, urging the private sector to export as much to grow the economy.
